Youtube has come up with new idea of downloading videos directly from YouTube app. Youtube has recently started developing an app called YouTube Go through this app we can download our favorite videos. This app is under development but it is available on google playstore. since, this app is under development so it may not work properly.

Previously, viewing YouTube videos on a personal computer required the Adobe Flash Player plug-in to be installed in the browser. In January 2010, YouTube launched an experimental version of the site that used the built-in multimedia capabilities of web browsers supporting the HTML5 standard.This allowed videos to be viewed without requiring Adobe Flash Player or any other plug-in to be installed.The YouTube site had a page that allowed supported browsers to opt into the HTML5 trial. Only browsers that supported HTML5 Video using the H.264 or WebM formats could play the videos, and not all videos on the site were available. On January 27, 2015, YouTube announced that HTML5 will be the default playback method on supported browsers. Supported browsers include Chrome, Safari 8, and Internet Explorer 11. YouTube experimented with Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (MPEG-DASH), an adaptive bit-rate HTTP-based streaming solution optimizing the bitrate and quality for the available network.YouTube uses Adobe Dynamic Streaming for Flash.

Uploading

All YouTube users can upload videos up to 15 minutes each in duration. Users who have a good track record of complying with the site's Community Guidelines may be offered the ability to upload videos up to 12 hours in length, which requires verifying the account, normally through a mobile phone. When YouTube was launched in 2005, it was possible to upload long videos, but a ten-minute limit was introduced in March 2006 after YouTube found that the majority of videos exceeding this length were unauthorized uploads of television shows and films. The 10-minute limit was increased to 15 minutes in July 2010.If an up-to-date browser version is used, videos greater than 20 GB can be uploaded.Videos captions are made using speech recognition technology when uploaded. Such captioning is usually not perfectly accurate, so YouTube provides several options for manually entering the captions for greater accuracy.
YouTube accepts videos that are uploaded in most container formats, including AVI, MP4, MPEG-PS, QuickTime File Format and FLV. It supports WebM files and also 3GP, allowing videos to be uploaded from mobile phones.
Videos with progressive scanning or interlaced scanning can be uploaded, but for the best video quality, YouTube suggests interlaced videos be deinterlaced before uploading. All the video formats on YouTube use progressive scanning. YouTube's statistics shows that interlaced videos are still being uploaded to YouTube, and there is no sign of that actually dwindling. YouTube attributes this to uploading of made-for-TV content.

Mobdro app:

Mobdro is an app to stream movies, TV shows, documentaries, sports, and other content on your Android. However, it works differently from most similar apps. The reason is that with Mobdro, you don't choose what movie or episode you want to watch; instead, you choose a channel. 

In a lot of apps for watching movies and series online, you can choose the exact episode or movie you want to watch at any time. With Mobdro, it's not like that. Instead, you have an enormous list of channels that show nonstop episodes or movies.

You hate new whatsapp status feature? you can now desable it!

A recent update made by whatsapp i.e whatsapp status .After copying Snapchat’s storied feature on Instagram, facebook decided to put the same story like status feature on WhatsApp. However, many people like me don’t like this new feature at all.
If you prefer to use WhatsApp the old way, you find new Status feature very annoying and want to Contacts tab back again (which is also removed with the addition of Story-like Status feature) then you don’t need to worry.
In this tutorial, I will show you how you can get rid of the New Status Feature and remove it completely from your WhatsApp. Although you need to have a rooted Android phone for this method to work.

Easy & Simple Method To Disable Staus Feature

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > WhatsApp.
  2. Tap on Force Close and go back to home screen.
  3. Now, open the app Preferences Manager.
  4. On the top, tap on search and search for “WhatsApp”.
  5. Tap on WhatsApp to open.
  6. Again, on the top, tap on search and search for “status_mode”.
  7. Then, tap on “status_mode” = 1.
  8. In the Value field change the value from “1” to “0”.
  9. Now open your WhasApp again and you the Status Tab will be gone.

Another Simple Method

  • Make sure you have a Root Explorer on your phone.
  • Make sure you have enabled “/” & “/System” to RW.
  1. Open your root explorer.
  2. Go to /data/data/com.whatsapp/shared_prefs/com.whatsapp_preferences.xml
  3. Open com.whatsapp_preferences.xml file with a text editor.
  4. Look for the line <int name=”status_mode” value=”1″ />
  5. Change the value from “1” to “0” so it will be like this <int name=”status_mode” value=”0″ />
  6. Then save the file and exit.
  7. That’s it!

Instant Games launched in facebook messenger app

Facebook Messenger on Wednesday launched “Instant Games” in 30 countries to get users spend more time on its messaging app.

According to a report in Tech Crunch, the 17 “Instant Games” from classic developers like Bandai Namco, Konami and Taito, as well as newer studios like Zynga and King, are available on newer iOS and Android devices, and can be found by hitting the game controller icon in Facebook Messenger threads next to the photos and stickers buttons.
These games are built on the HTML5 mobile web standard and open instantly once screen is tapped.
Though its payment revenue has declined to $196 million in the latest quarter, 15 per cent of time on Facebook is still spent playing games.

Hands-On: Dicey Controls, But Frictionless And Addicting

I played all 17 of the games, and was impressed by how they quickly load in three to ten seconds considering the high quality graphics and gameplay, as well as how Messenger automatically shares high scores and leaderboards so its easy to challenge people. Since most of the games are simple to pick up and take around 30 seconds to play a full round, anyone can slot them into their day.The most frustrating part is the spotty controls that can quickly get you killed in games like Pac-Man and Arkanoid. But an even bigger concern might be just how successful Messenger Instant Games could be. [But on mobile] Everything has gotten social slapped on as an after-thought.” Facebook thinks games built or rebuilt for fast, asynchronous competition could unlock a new era of friendly play.

Facebook Gets Back To Gaming Via HTML5Facebook dominated social gaming around 2008 after its desktop app platform proved more popular for playing around than for utilities. It earned a peak of a quarter-billion dollars per quarter on its 30% tax on in-game purchases, and their addictive and viral nature helped Facebook grow its user count and engagement. Today, 15% of time on Facebook.com is still spent playing games, though payments revenue has declined to $196 million in the latest quarter.

As users shifted to mobile, Facebook found itself shut out of gaming. Only iOS and Android could run native app stores, so they were who earned the taxes on in-game payments. Facebook desperately tried to build an HTML5 game platform called Project Spartan in 2011, but it flopped because the mobile web standard wasn’t powerful enough to build games that could compete with flashy, downloadable native apps.
Over time, though, developers have figured out how to squeeze better graphics and responsive gameplay out of HTML5. You won’t be playing 3D epics like Infinity Blade on Messenger, but 80s arcade classics, simple puzzlers, and retro games like Flappy Bird would work just fine.
Facebook actually tested the potential for Messenger games by building its own. Its basketball shoot-out game was played 1.2 billion times, much more than the company expected. It knew people would play if Messenger gave them games. And chat apps like Line and KakaoTalk had already pioneered the idea of chat game platform.
Earlier this month, The Information reported Facebook was building an Instant Games platform, and we advanced the story with news about how the games would work and that the Candy Crush-maker King was building for the platform.
Though HTML5 games built inside Messenger platforms might not be as graphically powerful, they’re almost as engaging. A study by gaming network Gamee found that, on average, users played chat games 34 times per day for a total of 21 minutes over 2 sessions per day, while they played native app games 43 times for 33 minutes over 2.5 sessions per day.
Combine that level of chat game engagement with the lack of friction to get started, and there’s a big audience waiting for Messenger’s Instant Games.It’s all part of Facebook’s two-pronged new approach to gaming. On mobile, there’s Messenger Instant Games. And on desktop, the new Facebook Gameroom downloadable desktop client is a cheap, casual, social alternative to the expensive, hardcore desktop game platform Steam.

The biggest draw of Instant Games is how quick you can start playing. You tap the game controller icon in one of your message threads, choose a game from the list, it loads in seconds, you play a short round, and your high score gets automatically posted to the private or group chat thread.You can even share a stylized high score screenshot that you can Doodle on top of like Snapchat to trash talk your opponents. Facebook’s Next Developer Ecosystem

To keep developers building for it, Facebook will need to eventually offer them ways to make money. Right now, games don’t feature ads and don’t allow in-game payments. That means developers might lose money if they build for and send traffic to Instant Games instead of their own native apps where they can charge or show ads at their own discretion.However, Marcus tells me “Over time we’ll find ways for game developers to monetize. That’s our commitment to them in the new year.” For now, though, there’s plenty of virality and traction to grab since playing a game in a thread automatically challenges your chat mates, and you can share games you enjoy as News Feed posts. Developers might strive to build an audience now and monetize it later.
Compared to platforms like the iMessage game store, which is buried and features lackluster games, Facebook Messenger’s offering is compelling. And unlike KakaoTalk, where you have to download games as separate native apps and just use the chat platform for login and competing, Messenger’s Instant Games feel like a natural part of the communication experience. [Update: Telegram offers HTML5 games, but the experience is only available inside chatbots and takes some work to dig out.]Facebook will have to avoid the spam apocalypse that soured many users on its old desktop social games. Developers like Zynga exploited viral communication channels to get players to pester friends for help. Facebook product manager Andrea Vaccari tells me Facebook has learned from that mistake. “Right now all in-game communication is controlled by us”, he says.
If Facebook can use its 1 billion-user reach to lure top developers and put games just two clicks away, it might have found something to add to Messenger that’s almost as addicting as talking with friends.

Brand New Motorola Moto M set to launch in india

Lenovo is bringing another phone to the Indian market from its Moto department next week on Tuesday. Soon after the phone was launched in China last month with a price tag of CNY 1,999, the company teased its launch in India on its Moto India twitter handle.
Interestingly, the phone sports a full metal unibody design and is water resistant like the Moto G4 and G4 plus. The design is also quite similar with a rounded back and a 5.5 inch Full HD display in front; the same Octa core snapdragon 617 chipset and 3000mAh battery. So the major difference then remains with the fingerprint sensor placement.

This may have come in response to many Moto fans and critics who pointed out that front button is a useless addition when on-screen home and back keys are the given way of navigation. It is like a home button that you can't press and that is annoying at times. Then there was the plastic build, both on Moto G4 and G4 Plus that became a fodder for further analysis.
Motorola (yeah Lenovo) fixes these things with Moto M. It had to be announced in India. The fingerprint sensor is placed at the back, the build is all metal (and water resistant), the RAM is upgraded to 3GB/4GB and the storage to 32GB/64GB. Then, there is a higher resolution 16megapixel camera in the rear with 1micrometer pixel size. It almost enters the Moto Z league.Though, hinting from the China price, the Moto M will also carry a bigger price tag. And that also kind of jeopardizes the pricing of Lenovo smartphones that always manage to carry heftier specs. The Lenovo Z2 having Snapdragon 820 would actually cost the same.
That said however, Moto phones grab an edge over its Lenovo counterparts by offering clean stock interface and water resistance with a curvier design. Like you, we are eagerly waiting for the new (read old) Moto design to rise from the ashes, in metal.
As expected, Motorola has sent out media invites for a launch event in Mumbai on December 13, where it will be launching the Moto M. The invite comes with a tagline, “Mesmerizing, masterful, majestic (just like you),” followed by a sketch of a smartphone’s back panel. The pill-shaped camera module and the circular fingerprint scanner is all the evidence we require to guess that the upcoming smartphone is the Moto M.
The Moto M was launched in China last month, and it boasts a metal unibody design. It is also among the first Motorola smartphones where the fingerprint scanner is placed at the back. Another talking point of the smartphone is the built-in Dolby ATMOS support, and the nano coating that can save the phone from an accidental splash of water.

Moto M price

The Moto M is available in China with a price tag of RMB 1,999, which roughly translates to Rs 19,700. If the Lenovo-owned company were to stick to this price segment, the Moto M would face competition from the likes of the Honor 8 Smart and the Xiaomi Mi 5 to name a few.

The Moto M features a 5.5-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) display with 2.5D curved glass. Under the hood runs a MediaTek Helio P15 quad-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz and paired with Mali T860MP2 GPU and 4GB of RAM. There is 32GB onboard storage on offer, which can be expanded up to 256GB using a microSD card.
For photography, the Moto M is equipped with a 16-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, dual-tone LED flash and PDAF support, while up front, there is an 8-megapixel selfie camera. The smartphone also features a 3,050mAh battery with Turbo Charging support, and connectivity options like dual-SIM support (hybrid setup), 4G with VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v4.1, GPS, USB Type-C port, NFC, and 3.5mm audio jack. On the software front, the smartphone runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, but is expected to soon be updated to Android Nougat.
Moto M, the metal-clad smartphone that was unveiled last month in China, will be launched in India on Tuesday. Lenovo, the parent company of Motorola, has started sending out media invites for an event on Tuesday where the company will hold the Moto M India launch. The company had earlier teased the launch of the smartphone's India launch, but has said nothing about the official Moto M release date.
The first all-metal Moto smartphone, the Moto M price in India is expected to be around Rs. 20,000 considering it was launched in China at CNY 1,999 (roughly Rs. 19,700).
Apart from sporting an all-metal body, the Moto M features antenna bands running on the top and bottom edges at the back. The new Moto M runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and features a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) 2.5D IPS display with a pixel density of 401ppi. Moto M is powered by a 64-bit MediaTek Helio P15 processor clocked at 2.2GHz coupled with 4GB of LPDDR3 RAM. It packs 32GB inbuilt storage and supports expandable storage via microSD card (up to 128GB). The dual-SIM Moto smartphone features a hybrid dual-SIM slot, which means it supports a Micro-SIM or microSD card in the second SIM slot.
Moto M sports a 16-megapixel rear camera with dual-LED flash, an f/2.0 aperture, and supports PDAF (phase detection autofocus). It also sports an 8-megapixel front sensor. The Moto M smartphone is backed by a 3050mAh battery, and also comes with support for fast charging. Much like several Moto smartphones, the Moto M also comes with splash proof design (or nano-coating) which means it can bear light rain splashes. The handset supports 4G with VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v4.1, GPS/ A-GPS, USB Type-C (USB 3.1), NFC, and 3.5mm connectivity options.Following a teaser on Twitter, Lenovo-owned Motorola has now sent out press invites to an event scheduled on December 13 in Mumbai. It is expected that Motorola will announce the launch of the Moto M, as it also has a blurred image on the invite which says Moto M. The media invite says, “Mesmerizing, masterful, majestic (just like you)”, and has a blurred picture of the rear end of the Moto M. The smartphone went on sale in China in November. Motorola Moto M is a very different smartphone from the company and has no resemblance to the last device, Moto Z lineup. The device has a metal boy and the edges are round. The antenna lines are at the top and bottom. Motorola, for the first time, has introduced the fingerprint scanner at the rear end, the smartphones generally have a square fingerprint scanner added on the front.
The smartphone might just be among the most powerful devices among the mid-range devices. It has a 5.5-inch FHD screen with a resolution of 1920×1080 and a 2.5 D curved glass. Moto M features a MediaTek Helio P15 quad-core processor along with 4Gb of RAM and an internal memory of 32GB, expandable up to 256GB using a microSD card. The new smartphone contains a 16 MP camera at the back with f.2.0 aperture, PDAF support and dual tone flash. For selfies, an 8MP camera is present. The battery is of 3050mAh and has Turbo Charging technology support which is a common feature among Motorola devices. The phone runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box and has 4G support.
Moto M comes with a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture, dual tone flash, PDAF and Dolby Audio support. The front is dominated by an 8-megapixel shooter. The 3050mAh battery supports Turbo Charging technology like other Motorola phone. The 4G LTE smartphone runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box. The device is totally water and dust proof.
The price has not been announced yet, but it will be an interesting thing to wait for. According to reports, the phone will be priced at Rs 18,000. In that case, when it is launched on December 13, it will have to compete with certain smartphones which have the faster Snapdragon processors, in the range.

Mario’s accomplished a lot in the three and a half decades he’s spent in the public spotlight. He’s been a plumber, a soldier, a doctor, refereed basketball and tennis, played baseball and raced cars, made toys and worked at a brewery. He’s lived through every Nintendo console and watched generations of competitors rise and fall.

But in spite of one of the most impressive resumes in all of video gamedom, his arrival on iOS was anything but smooth. Over the past decade, the company made it sufficiently clear that mobile was not and would never be the right play for Nintendo.
You don’t have to dig too far to find a rich vein of quotes expressing that viewpoint, but here’s one from 2011 that does the job pretty well:
Having a hardware development team in-house is a major strength. It’s the duty of management to make use of those strengths. It’s probably the correct decision in the sense that the moment we started to release games on smartphones, we’d make profits. However, I believe my responsibility is not to short-term profits, but to Nintendo’s mid- and long-term competitive strength.
But industries and buying habits change, and in order to survive, companies must shift accordingly. For Nintendo, that meant a reappraisal of how the gaming giant approached mobile gaming.
“We have reshaped our overall business mission and key strategies that are driving it,” Nintendo of American President Reggie Fils-Aimé told TechCrunch in a sit-down interview ahead of the launch of the company’s latest mobile offering. “Our business mission is to make people smile through the use of our IP.”
While Nintendo hasn’t shied away from its long-standing dedication to the marriage between platform and game, the opportunity presented by mobile was ultimately too strong to ignore, albeit from a sheer fiscal standpoint and from the point of view of a company looking to reach a new generation of users and underserved parts of the globe with the most valuable intellectual property in the business.

It wasn’t exactly kicking and screaming, but no one can accuse Nintendo of launching headlong into a vibrant new format. In March of this year, the company took its first stab at the space in the form of Miitomo, a sort of social network built around Wii-like avatars and tied to the company’s My Nintendo program. The app started off strong, but a few months later, engagement had dropped off sharply.  It was a strange choice for Nintendo’s long-awaited mobile arrival. It wasn’t a game, really, and it didn’t leverage any of the aforementioned IP. No Zelda, no Mario, not even a Samus or Kid Icarus.
And then Pokémon GO happened. The Niantic-developed app was a veritable phenomenon, a perfect fusion of Nintendo charm and mobile technology, utilizing geolocation and camera-based AR technologies in a way that simply couldn’t exist on other platforms. And in the process, it created the sort of gaming event that only comes a few times in a generation. It also managed to reignite interest in one of the company’s top properties.
“Since the launch of Pokémon GO this summer, we’ve seen Nintendo 3DS have year over year growth,” says Fils-Aimé. “We’ve seen the unprecedented launch of Pokémon Sun and Moon. For us what this signals is that, if we get millions or billions of consumers to interact with our IP, the halo effect that it can have across all of our business lines is tremendous. That’s a fundamentally different strategy trajectory that we were on 10, 15 years ago. “

Power-up

Next up is Super Mario Run. Set for a release this month exclusively on iOS, the title marks the arrival of the one Nintendo property with even more instant cache than Pokémon.
The game plays to the franchise’s strengths, built around a familiar sidescrolling format that maintains a lot of Super Mario Bros.’s familiar elements, from goombas and question-mark boxes to Bowser castles and ghosts, applying them to a slightly tweaked formula designed to play with a single hand in portrait mode, so users can play while hanging onto a subway strap.
The camera advances automatically and Mario runs along with it. And, surprisingly, automatically leaps over enemies — which admittedly takes some getting used to after decades spent manually jumping on top of Koopa Troopas. The skill lies in jumping over games, grabbing power ups and collecting coins — the latter of which provides users different experiences of the same level when enough of the special pink versions are attained.
“Our developers approach game development uniquely to each specific experience and game,” Fils-Aimé explains. “Super Mario Run is a game our team wanted to make accessible to everyone — five to 95. All you have to do is tap on the screen with one finger. But the ability to progress, the ability to capture all the coins, the ability to build your kingdom — that takes some mastery.”
Anyone who’s spent any time in the Mushroom Kingdom will immediately feel at home among the pipes, and the Nintendo team, led by Mario’s legendary creator Shigeru Miyamoto, has done a fine job playing to the technology’s strengths, with a bright and shiny take of the portly plumber, paired with a souped-up version of the familiar soundtrack. All of that is set to newly designed levels in 24 worlds that echo but don’t directly duplicate the original.
“Mr. Miyamoto and his team deserve a lot of credit for what they’ve been able to do,” Fils-Aimé continues. “Nintendo has experienced developing a wide range of different games for a wide range of different controls. Everything from the original D-Pad to the original motion controller. What we had to do was really think about how you build a compelling experience that you can literally play with one finger, by touching a screen.”

On the run

The game’s appeal is, in no small part, due to its simplicity. As with the recently released NES Classic, it plays to Nintendo’s greatest strength these days: putting a new spin on the old classics. But that all-too-familiar approach has already made the $10 price point difficult for some otherwise enthusiastic gamers to swallow.
While it might be less than the cost of a movie, $10 might as well be $100 for many in mobile app land — particularly in the wake of the free-to-download Pokémon GO. But between a free three-level trial and potential replay value, Fils-Aimé is confident that the company has hit the right price point.
“Every game we develop — whether it’s for the home console or handheld — we ask ourselves what’s the right value for the offering,” he explains. “Look at Super Mario Run: 24 different worlds, three different modes, the on-going replayability for $9.99 here in the U.S. That’s a tremendous value, and we think in the end the consumer is going to respond accordingly, especially when they can sample a lot of the game for free.”

Back to basics

Super Mario Run doesn’t capitalize on the iPhone’s strengths in nearly as innovative a fashion as Pokémon GO, but it does a good job playing to its relative weaknesses as a gaming system, porting Mario to a world devoid of custom controllers and massive screen real estate.
Like Flappy Bird before it, it’s a game that can completed almost entirely with a single repetitive motion: the tap. And it also goes even more vertical than the first generation of platformers, with some parkour-style bounds off the sides of walls that help Mario advance to the next level, grab some elusive coinage and get out of some pretty tight scrapes.
And as the NES Classic’s seemingly unmeetable demand has confirmed, the nostalgia factor alone will be more than enough to get most gamers through the door. I was only able to play through two levels in my demo, but the appeal is clear. It’s equal parts fun and frustrating the way Mario has always been.
I’m not sure the purely aesthetic between-level world building or the opportunity to replay the same level in different configurations has quite the appeal Nintendo is banking on, but 24 world’s worth of gameplay should keep most casual gamers busy for a while to come. And hey, on a platform where Fruit Ninja and Angry Birds are considered classics, perhaps there’s something to be said for repetition.Playing through the game, it’s almost hard to recall the company’s initial reservations around a mobile Mario. With Miyamoto and a team of world-class developers who turned the game around in about a year, it’s easy to image where Nintendo’s mobile division would be if the company had leapt in a few years earlier, rather than stubbornly refusing to develop for someone else’s hardware. But Fils-Aimé insists that the company has no reservations about entering mobile when it did.
“It really was important to be thoughtful around how this business opportunity would look in our broader business scheme,” he explains. “Being thoughtful around how we go about it and how we leverage it across all parts of our business. We’ve said for years that we could make this type of content, but for us it really was thinking about how it fits in the broader ecosystem of driving our IP. We believe we’ve found that approach. “
A week ahead of the release Nintendo’s first true smartphone game, Super Mario Run, we had a chance to spend a half-hour with the portable platformer. How does it feel? Surprisingly like a classic Mario game.
Super Mario Run strips the core of a Mario game to its very basics. Unlike classic Mario games, in which you control the forward and backward movement of Mario, this game is an automatic runner, which means that Mario will run on his own. You control when he jumps.A light tap will cause a quick hop, while a longer press will send the mustachioed plumber soaring through the air. Moves can be combined in a number of ways, sending Mario vaulting over enemies, catapulting to collect coins, or leaping to hard-to-reach places.
Despite the streamlined controls, Super Mario Run still manages to feature what you’d expect from the series. You can still wall jump, stomp goombas, and collect coins and power-ups. Many of Mario’s moves have been automated: if you run directly into an enemy, for instance, he’ll automatically vault right over them. Iconic stages make appearances, including a haunted house littered with ghosts and trap doors, dark underground caverns, and the green pipe burdened Mushroom Kingdom. Though they look familiar, the levels all have a much more vertical feel than in past Mario games, due to the fact you play the game in portrait mode.To encourage players to explore levels, each stage also comes with five pink coins that are especially tricky to collect. If you manage to grab them all, you’ll then move on to collecting five purple coins in even harder-to-find places, which are then followed by daunting black coins. The idea is that the coins will force you to play levels multiple times, mastering their various intricacies.
Super Mario Run also features an asynchronous multiplayer component called “toad rally.” Here you’ll play against a “ghost” version of a friend or stranger. Each of you will run through the level, and the goal is to not only complete it in the fastest possible time, but also be as stylish as possible using Mario’s various moves. Once the level is finished, each player will get a score, and the winner earns currency that can be used to buy things to build up a Mario-themed kingdom.
We had a chance to speak with Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Super Mario, about Super Mario Run, Nintendo’s interest in smartphone gaming, and the future of the storied game maker. It’s a fun read, and a nice distraction until Super Mario Run releases on December 15th. The game will be free to download, but you’ll need to pay a one-time price of $9.99 to experience the whole thing.

10 technological innovations by Nasa is being used for everyday purposes on Earth

Nasa showcases how its technologies are beneficial for Earth based uses in an annual volume called Spinoff. Nasa has released the Spinoff 2017 book, which is a catalogue of technologies that use Nasa research for Earthly purposes. The books have been being released since 1996. There are self driving tractors that use advance GPS trackers to harvest food, CMOS sensors used in action cameras, and cooling pipes for use in brain surgery.
Stephen Jurczyk, associate administrator of the agency’s Space Technology Mission Directorate in Washington, says “The stories published in Spinoff represent the end of a technology transfer pipeline that begins when researchers and engineers at Nasa develop innovations to meet mission needs. This year’s spinoffs includes products and services at work in every sector of the economy. They are innovations that make people more productive, protect the environment, and much more.”
Here are ten exciting uses of Nasa technologies on Earth. If you ever wondered how the space race helps the human race directly, then this is your answer.
10. Self Driving TractorsA partnership between John Deere and Nasa’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory has resulted in significant savings for farmers who use automated tractors for agriculture. On the road, we are yet to see fully automated vehicles, but agricultural fields, where regulations are laxer, there have been automated vehicles for over ten years. Over this period, the accuracy of GPS was improved from 30 feet to an inch. The tractors are used for planting feeds, distributing fertiliser, spraying pesticides and harvesting the crop.
The increasing accuracy meant that there was less overlap in the areas automatically covered, resulting in significant savings to the farmers. The automated tractors can take into account inputs from local moisture sensors on the field, and combine it with the GPS data for a process known as Yield Mapping, which informs the farmers how much of their harvests come from which part of the field. John Deere has weaned itself off Nasa to guide its tractors, and uses their own systems now.
09. Laser based ArcheologyNasa scientists have been using Light Detection and Ranging, (LIDAR) tech since the Apollo 15 Moon mission in 1971. A Canadian company called Teledyne Optech has designed small, lightweight lidar devices for use by Nasa. These devices were used to detect snow in the atmosphere of Mars, and a small bread box sized lidar is on board the OSIRIS-REx, which is on its way to Asteroid Bennu to explore the origins of life. Archaeologists on Earth are using the small, portable lidar devices to peer into the past of the planet.The research teams flew over suspected sites of bison hunting, and scanned the ground with lidar devices. The devices were able to identify features on the ground, and peer through layers of thick vegetation. Archaeologists would then go to the corresponding features on ground, and look for signs of pre-historic activity. Once promising signs were found, the scientists moved in to dig the site, and find remains of bison bones and pre-historic artifacts associated with bison hunting and cooking. The legendary lost settlement of  Ciudad Blanca in Honduras was pinpointed using lidar.
08. Heat pipes for brain surgeryNasa has been using heat pipes to dissipate heat from the earliest spacecraft. A non-rotating satellite, constantly facing the sun, is susceptible to damage of its electric components because of the build up of heat. Copper tubes funnel away the heat from the exposed part of the satellite to the back, protecting the delicate equipment from damage. More recently, Nasa has been using heat pipes to passively cool fuel cells, which generate heat. Technology developed by Nasa partners Thermacore, is used by surgeons in open brain surgery.The process requires the use of electronic bipolar forceps, that produce heat. The heat is used to cauterise unhealthy brain tissue. However, the excess heat can damage perfectly healthy tissue, with parts of the brain sticking to the forceps at times. Miniature heat pipes on the forceps increase the surgical precision of the instruments, leading to better results for the patients. Another important medical application for heat pipes is blood warmers. Pipes can be used to evenly warm blood, instead of creating local hotspots. As the technology improves and develops, medical practitioners are finding increasing applications.
07. Blankets to warm babies
Technology originally developed for use in space suits are being used to prevent deaths of newborns in India. Astronauts use some of the most advanced materials in the world to insulate their bodies against extreme temperatures. Phase-change materials (PCMs) were originally researched to manage heat inside a spacesuit. PCMs absorb heat when it is warm, as they shift from solid to liquid, and release heat in cold temperatures as they refreeze. PCMs did not catch on for use in spacesuits, but the technology was licensed for commercial applications, and came to the attention of a Stanford university student assigned to try and create a cheap incubator for babies.Jane Chen developed a prototype incubator that cost a fraction of traditional incubators. A nonprofit organisation called Embrace was formed, and moved to Bangalore as India has the highest rate of infant mortality. PCM came to the rescue of vulnerable premature babies, and after a round of funding from a Kickstarter campaign, Embrace now makes a range of products including swaddles, sleeping bags and blankets. The PCM in these products absorb heat when babies are too warm, and release heat when they get too cold. The products are available on the web site, and an infant in the developing world gets one for free every time a product is purchased.
06. Radios to track flights from orbitNasa hesitated to use reconfigurable radios on its satellites because of the thorough testing done on the radios to ensure that they work in challenging situations. It is much more difficult to test radios for use case scenarios that you are not even aware of. However, Nasa has now embraced reconfigurable radios as the future of space based communication, because of the flexibility it offers, as well as the capability to boost science returns because of higher data rates. The reconfigurable radios can be used for another purpose though – worldwide tracking of aeroplanes.Iridium has operated a constellation of low orbit satellites that provide communication and data services to the remotest regions of the earth. The constellation of Iridium NEXT satellites that are scheduled for launch are all going to be equipped with Harris AppSTAR reconfigurable radios that are programmed to receive signals from a new generation of aeroplane transceivers called ADS-B. This means that no other aircraft in the future will disappear mysteriously, similar to the Malaysia Air Flight 370 incident.
05. High Speed Cameras
For the Orion landing test, Nasa required a camera that had not existed on Earth at all. The camera was to be hosed in a rugged self contained casing that could endure the vacuum of space, a fall through the atmosphere, and immersion in water. The camera would require to catch high speed video in a high resolution, so that the scientists could find out what went wrong and where, if the mission were to fail. Nasa approached Integrated Design Tools for the project, which made cameras for industrial and scientific research applications.The technology developed for the Nasa mission is now used by IDT cameras, which are seeing an increase in sales. One of the key benefits is the creation of a high bandwidth pathway, that allowed the high speed cameras to write data on to hard disks. Previously, high resolution cameras would save data in volatile memory, where the data could get lost in case there was a disruption in the power supply to the camera. Nasa could not take this risk, and so IDT developed a camera that was able to transfer 10 to 12 gigabits per second to a hard drive.
04. Rail monitoring sensorsNASA’s Subsonic Rotary Wing Project is an initiative to ensure the competitiveness of the US Helicopter Industry. Nasa contractors developed a sensor that could RotoSense, a rotational vibration sensor meant to predict failures in helicopter transmission. Wireless accelerometers constantly monitor the circular movement of the rotors and analyses the health and condition in realtime. There are three accelerometres measuring g-forces in three directions. The same sensor could be used in a fast moving part of another vehicle – wheels of trains.Monitoring vibrations in the axle of the train can be used to detect flaws in the rails over which the train is moving. A company called Ridgetop retooled the RotoSense sensor meant for helicopters, into a device called RailSafe. The eventual aim of the device is to identify problems and predict failures before the happen, with long term monitoring of vibrations. Apart from preventing catastrophe, the sensors can also be used to prevent unnecessary maintenance, and cut costs. Such a device is one of the ways technology can be used to prevent incidents such as the derailment of the Patna-Indore express.
03. Nanofibre water purifiers
Water scarcity is a worldwide problem, where over a billion people do not have easy access to clean drinking water. Even in developed countries, water sources can get contaminated, or cut off during natural disasters. Nasa creates some of the best water filteration systems in the world, for use in another environment where water is scarce – space. Astronauts on the International Space Station consume water that is collected from every available source, including sweat and urine.
Nasa has collaborated with a number of companies to fund or transfer the technologies needed for creating cheap, portable water purifiers. These have resulted in solar powered devices, hand cranked devices, filters for use under the sink, and filters for use in remote locations. The problem with traditional filters for removal of virus and bacteria was that water had to be pushed through tiny holes, which was a slow process. Nanofibre attracts the bacteria and the viruses, allowing for more than 10 litres of water to be filtered in under a minute.
02. Ski GogglesA researcher in Nasa’s Ames Research Center was exploring ways to counter the effects of a phenomenon known as center-loading sensitivity. Human eyes are more sensitive to the colours in the middle range of the visible spectrum, such as blues and greens, and less sensitive to the colours in the extremes, such as red. Len Haslim developed a simple, low cost optical filter, that would allow colours such as red to stand out in a field of green to detect foreign objects in a camouflaged environment, such as forests. The lenses were developed to help in spotting targets and judging distances, presumably by military forces, but had another interesting application. The lenses could detect distress in plants, allowing them to be saved before their conditions deteriorated. Robert Brock, an optical scientist, recognized the value of using these lenses for other applications, and founded a company now known as NASTEK.Blue light can be a hindrance to skiers, when it comes to clearly perceiving terrain, so ski goggles filter out blue light. While other ski goggles in the market can filter between 79 to 80 percent of the blue light, NASTEK lenses were first used in goggles by Optik Nerve in 2015. The Goggles use technology developed by Nasa to achieve a filtration rate of 95 percent. Ski goggles are designed for different light conditions, some are meant for low light, and some are meant for intense and direct light. The NASTEK goggles handle both conditions equally well, and are cheaper than competition as well.
01. CMOS SensorsEugene Lally conceptualised Digital Photography at the jet Propulsion Laboratory way back in 1960. In 1990, JPL hired Charged Coupled Device (CCD) expert Eric Fossum to work on digital cameras. Fossum believed that he could improve the complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology, into a commercially viable technology. CMOS sensors suffered from various issues, including noise. Fossum used a CCD technique of measuring the voltage of a pixel before and after an exposure to reduce the noise. This allowed for a range of commercial applications, including consumer cameras with low power requirements, low noise and capable of being housed in tiny casings.The CMOS sensors invented at NASA’s JPL are perhaps the most commonly used technologies to be spun off from NASA. These sensors are in action cameras, mobile phones, and dedicated cameras as well. Image sensors for automotive, surveillance and industrial applications also use CMOS sensors. The devices are small, light, and have a reduced energy footprint compared to other technologies. Cell phone cameras are the most commonly used cameras now, and these would not have been possible without CMOS sensors.
