A look at the key passages of play from Match 41 of the 2016 Indian Premier League, in which Mumbai Indians beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets on Wednesday.
RCB's unsettled batting order
In the last match against Kings XI Punjab with no Chris Gayle in the playing XI,Lokesh Rahul opened the innings and scored a fine 42. Gayle returned for the match against Mumbai Indians and Rahul was promptly dropped to the number four slot. An unsettled batting order has been one of the problems plaguing Bangalore thisIPL season. No wonder the hosts had a woeful start and scored only 25 runs in the Powerplay, losing captain Virat Kohli and Gayle.
Rahul continues fine form
Rahul has been the most consistent batsmen in the RCB team. Though Kohli, Gayle and AB de Villiers have hogged the limelight, Rahul has done the bulk of the scoring. Against Mumbai, Rahul scored his fourth half-century in eight matches and his unbeaten 68 gave an edge to the Bangalore total. Rahul, who came in when Bangalore were in a spot of bother at 17/2 in the fourth over, struck three fours and four sixes in his 53-ball unbeaten knock.
AB de Villiers fails to capitalise
Though de Villiers has got decent starts in this IPL season, he hasn't really set the tournament on fire. Against Mumbai, he once again started well and was set to take off with a huge six off Harbhajan Singh in the tenth over. Harbhajan's next delivery was an excellent dipping offspinner which made De Villiers reach out and lob a return chance. Harbhajan dived to his left, got fingertips on the ball but couldn't cling on De Villiers though failed to make the most of the lifeline and fell off the first ball of the very next over from Krunal Pandya. Interestingly, this was the second time that Pandya had dismissed De Villiers in two matches.
